As we start to prepare for our upcoming missions it is important that all team members have the following:
Ø Passport: make sure the expiration date is at least 6 months out, if not
Go to the USA Passport agency: http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html
Ø Work Leave: start to contact your supervisor, etc to get the time off but know that at the last minute the date may need to change
Ø Visa Requirement: No visa is needed for Haiti if in the country for less than 90 Days
Ø Immunization record: please access CDC website > http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel
o For Haiti the following injections are needed: Malaria, Cholera, Typhoid, Hepatitisi A or Immunoglobi, Hepatitis B, as well as the routine vaccinations such as measles/mumps/rubella (MMR), diptheria/pertussis/tetanus (DPT), polio, seasonal flu/H1N1. & varicella. It is important to make sure you have a current tetanus shot.
Ø Health Check: make sure you are up to date on your health; have a supply of all your medicines for the trip; understand that the hours can be long, meals times spaced, sleep time limited. And then ask yourself are you up to the challenge?
